Nintendo Switch Online to get free SNES games surprise during January 2019 Direct

Nintendo Switch Online could be about to be boosted by an influx of new free games.

Similar to Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus, Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription service that lets users play online multiplayer.

Subscribers also receive free NES games on a regular basis. This includes the likes of Legend of Zelda, Metroid and Super Mario Bros.

It’s not the greatest selection of free games, especially compared to the PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold lineups.

But according to a new report, this could be about to change, as Nintendo prepares to introduce a selection of free SNES games.

In files discovered by Kapu (via Nintendo Life), 22 SNES games are being planned for the service.

This includes heavyweights like Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario World and Super Metroid, as well as the ultra-rare Star Fox 2, Breath of Fire 2 and Pop’n Twinbee.

The SNES games discovered in the files…

• Super Mario Kart

• Super Soccer

• The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

• Demon’s Crest

• Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island

• Stunt Race FX

• Kirby’s Dream Course

• Pop’n Twinbee

• Star Fox

• Contra III: The Alien Wars

• Kirby Super Star

• Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts

• Kirby’s Dream Land 3

• Super Metroid

• Super Mario World

• Pilotwings

• F-ZERO

• Star Fox 2

• Super Punch-Out!!

• The Legend of the Mystical Ninja

• Super Mario All-Stars

• Breath of Fire II

Speaking of the Nintendo Switch Online service, subscribers will receive a new batch of free games later this week.

In a recent tweet, Nintendo announced plans to release Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link and Blaster Master on January 16.

“Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and Blaster Master are coming to Nintendo Switch Online – Nintendo Entertainment System on 16/01!” the tweet reads.

Zelda 2 is a side-scrolling sequel to the iconic original, while Blaster Master is a run-and-gun platformer with side-scrolling and top-down gameplay.
