'Melania can make you SALAD!' – Donald Trump makes OUTRAGEOUS joke in White House speech

Due to the US government shutdown, there aren’t any staff available and therefore the President resorted to buying takeaway food when the National College champions visited Washington. Trump was hosting Clemson’s University team following his quick trip to New Orleans where he spoke at the 100th annual meeting of the American Farm Bureau Federation on Monday. On his return to the White House, Trump made it clear the array of fast food on offer was personally paid for by him due to the shutdown.

Trump said: “Do we give you some little quick salads that the First Lady and Second Lady could make.

“But I said you guys aren’t into salads.

“Or do I send out for about 1,000 hamburgers?”

Standing behind the large collection of food, Trump promoted the dinner as “great American food”.

Trump said: “If it’s American, I like it.

“It’s all American stuff, 300 hamburgers, many, many french fries — all of our favourite foods.”

The government shutdown has been going for 24 days now as Trump struggles to secure funding for his border between America and Mexico.

It is now the longest government shutdown in American history and the President put together series of Tweets on Monday morning trying to pressure the Democrats into buckling on their stance.

The President has been making a point of telling he’s supporters that he’s ready and waiting to make a deal after he reportedly stormed out of a recent meeting with the Democrats.

Trump has repeatedly vowed not to budge from his demand over a border wall, but rejected an idea he floated last week that he would simply bypass Congress and fund a border wall by declaring a national emergency.

Speaking in New Orleans, Trump said there was “no substitute” for a physical barrier along the southern border with Mexico and accused Democrats of playing politics in refusing to negotiate on the issue.

He said: “I will say the Republicans are really, really sticking together.

“It’s great to see because we need border security. We have to have it.”
