Emergency services are at the scene in central Paris following the explosion at a boulangerie – meaning bakery – shortly before 8am GMT (9am local time). Nine people have been seriously injured, according to police reports. Shocking images show people being carried out on stretchers and debris strewn across streets in front of buildings with blown—out windows. Firefighters have rescued several people in a burning building resulting from the blast. People are being urged to stay away from the area for their own safety.
Where did huge Boulangerie blast take place? What caused it?
The blast hit a boulangerie at the corner of Saint-Cecile and Rue de Trevise in Paris’s 9th District, a short walk away from the Louvre Museum.
The cause of the explosion is not known, although police are investigating whether it might be due to a gas leak.
Police are on high alert on a ninth consecutive Saturday of yellow vest protests.
