Mate 20 Pro update reveals more impressive news for Huawei flagship

Huawei has continued to impress over the past 12 months with the Chinese technology giant releasing some of the best smartphones of 2018.

The P20 Pro won a swathe awards and the Mate 20 Pro shook the market with new technology such as its triple rear camera and ability to refill other devices via reverse wireless charging.

Now it seems consumers are beginning to take notice of this relatively new brand to the UK with one retailer confirming huge growth in sales of Huawei devices,

Argos has revealed that sales of Huawei phones have “increased six-fold over the last year” with customers clearly impressed by what this company has to offer.

Speaking to Express.co.uk about the current smartphone climate, Phil Elford, Head of Technology at Argos said: “New Chinese brands such as Huawei and Xiaomi are really shaking up the mobile market with some really great specifications and great value handsets.

“Huawei, in particular, has proved to be a real hit with our customers and we’ve seen Huawei sales increase six-fold over the last year.

“Our customers are loving the excellent spec on handsets like the Mate 20 Pro, such as in-display fingerprint scanner, large OLED screen and unique Leica camera set-up.

“With prices as low as £129, Huawei is offering a really accessible alternative to the major smartphone brands.”

Along with the growth of Huawei, Argos has also seen a huge increase in consumers switching to SIM-free phones rather than taking out a long-term monthly contract.

In fact, the retailer says that SIM-free devices grew 17 times more than contract mobile sales in the last six months.

“More broadly, we’re seen increasing numbers of customers choosing to ditch contracts for the flexibility and value offered by going SIM-free,” added Elford.

“Switching to SIM-free means customers can get access to the latest handsets earlier, get a wide choice of payment options, including credit, and aren’t tied in for 12-18 months.”

Consumers are certain to have an exciting year ahead with Huawei already revealing its first new smartphone of the year called the P Smart 2019.

This £199 device features a 6.21-inch edge-to-edge display, dual-rear camera and facial recognition security.

Also arriving this month is the next phone launch from Honor who is expected to reveal its next all-screen phone on January 22 at an event in Paris.

Then Samsung has confirmed its new Galaxy S10 will launch on February 20 with this device expected to include a refreshed design, triple rear camera and much faster processor.

A few days after the Koren technology firm reveals its new flagship, Mobile World Congress begins with Sony, LG and Nokia all likely to reveal next-generation handsets.

Finally, we can expect more devices from OnePlus and Xiaomi and Apple will no doubt hold its usual September launch event where the latest iPhones will get their grand unveiling.
