Home security camera footage sparks chilling warning for homeowners – is your house safe?

These days, home security cameras can be found in properties located all over the country. The surveillance systems can give residents an additional feeling of safety, with the technology recording what’s going on outside of your door. However, it seems that some men were unaware of this camera having been installed at a Liverpool home recently. Footage has been released which shows one of the men approaching a property, and appearing to look in a letterbox.

According to the Liverpool Echo, this occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, in Anfield, Liverpool.

The publication went on to report that three men seemed to be participating in this strange behaviour.

And, while the footage shows a limited view at what they could be up to, it’s said they are looking through the letterboxes of properties on the street.

The home security camera reveals one man standing relatively close to the camera, while two others also appear to be visiting other properties.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed they had received a report of suspicious behaviour in the area at around 3.30am.

Inspector Geoff Stewart said: “We did not receive any reports of burglary in the area at the time of this incident, but we continue to encourage anyone who sees anyone acting suspiciously in their neighbourhood to contact police.

“If you witnesses anything suspicious or have any CCTV or dashcam footage in the area in the early hours of Monday which might show the three males, or any other suspicious behaviour in Merseyside, we would ask that you send it to us so that we can make appropriate enquiries.”

While it is unknown what they were doing, the clip serves as a warning for homeowners to take precautions with their home security.

So, what can you do to reduce the risk of suspicious behaviour on your property?

Police.uk has a number of top tips for preventing break-ins.

For example, installing good outside lighting, which are automatically triggered by visitors could be a good way of deterring uninvited guests.

Installing a visual burglar alarm could also be off-putting for potential burglars.

However safe you may feel your area is, getting into the habit of locking your doors and windows comes highly recommended.

This includes while you’re in the garden.

And, for those who have had the sense to lock up, make sure you also keep the keys out of sight and away from the letterbox.

That’s because, some intruders have been known to have managed to let themselves into your home through letterbox burglary – which means they reached the keys by placing a rod through your letterbox.
