Celtic transfer news: Brendan Rodgers offers disappointing update for Hoops fans

The Parkhead manager is hunting value for money as he looks to bolster his ranks.

Celtic broke their transfer record with the £9million purchase of Odsonne Edouard last summer, but Rodgers isn’t envisaging a repeat.

The club has spent £2m on Vakoun Issouf Bayo and snared loan deals for Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah.

Rodgers said: “The model of the club is value and maximising that value and talent and development and see it grow at the club.

“The young players who have come in fit that model.

“My job was to develop that, increase that talent within and hopefully they can do a great job for Celtic, whether they are loan signings or a permanent signing.”

Rodgers is still in the market and has been linked with £4m-rated Norwegian right-back Omar Elabdellaoui, 27, from Greek side Olympiakos.

He added: “There are still positions where we would like to get folk in.

“The second part of the season is about bringing in more offensive threat and giving us more options.

“In the first part of the season, you could see that we were not ideal, having to play players out of position and whatnot.

“But bringing these guys in supports those already here and once we get the injured players back as well that gives us something to look forward to.”

Rodgers is delighted to have midfielder Nir Bitton back fully fit.

The Israeli has returned from 11 months on the sidelines and is gearing up towards a top-team return after knee surgery.

Rodgers said: “He’s been great for me in my time here. He doesn’t always get the credit he deserves. He’s a really influential player for us.”
