Avengers Endgame: Will THIS character make a shock return? HUGE clue in Infinity War

Red Skull’s appearance in the 2017 Marvel blockbuster was a breathtaking moment in a film full of twists and turns. With Ross Marquand taking over from Hugo Weaving, the character was instrumental in one of the biggest plot points: Thanos having to kill Gamora in order to obtain the Soul Stone. But was there a big clue at the end of that scene that pointed to Red Skull coming back in this year’s Endgame?

A popular fan theory doing the rounds on Reddit certainly thinks so.

User ak2sup has had thousands of readers approving of their idea, with 96% Upvoting.

They wrote: “I just rewatched infinity War and noticed one big detail.

“After Thanos sacrificed Gamora, a portal was opened above him and Red Skull, this portal [looked] similar to the one that teleported Red Skull to Vormir at the ending of Captain America: The First Avenger.

“I believe that not only the portal teleported Thanos to the Soul stone but it also returned Skull to earth [because] he was free from his curse after Thanos collected the stone.

“So Red Skull is on earth now and he may return in Endgame or future MCU movies.”

Certainly, Marquand has been cagey when asked if we’ll see him in the MCU again any time soon.

Marquand simply said on Talking Dead when asked if he’s back: “I don’t know. I can’t answer that question. I really don’t know.”

Of course even if he did know, the star would be unable to confirm it one way or the other, given how tightly-kept all the secrets of the film are.

But the fact he didn’t give a firm denial at least gives hope that he will be back.

Avengers: Endgame released its record-breaking first trailer last month, and will bring the current phase of Marvel storytelling to an end.

Avengers: Endgame is out on April 26.
