WhatsApp security update: Androids to get fingerprint security – when will it be out?

WhatsApp is a popular chat app, regularly used by 1.5 billion people. The messaging platform regularly rolls out updates to optimise the experience – and a new cutting-edge upgrade could be in store for WhatsApp users. Fingerprint security is reportedly in development and could be rolled out to users in a coming update.

WhatsApp chats are already incredibly secure, due to the adoption of end-to-end encryption.

This sophisticated communication system meaning only those people conversing can access the content.

However, this secure system is redundant if your phone is found unlocked because your WhatsApp messages could then be read with ease.

But this issue could be about to change, according to a leaked Google Play Beta Programme update.

The beta update reveals the Android v2.19.3 will boast a clever new authentication feature.

This feature allows WhatsApp users to use fingerprint authentication while using the app.

An anonymous industry insider said: “The app will be completely protected, so the user will need to authenticate his identity in order to open WhatsApp.

“It will protect the entire app, so it’s not used to lock specific conversations.”

But don’t expect the update to arrive any time soon, as the update remains in the “alpha stage of development”.

But it is hoped the fingerprint security will be available in future versions of WhatsApp for Android.
