Man Utd news: Sir Alex Ferguson gave rousing speech after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer invite

Manchester United hero Ferguson was invited to training by Solskjaer over the festive period.

Solskjaer took over at Old Trafford from Jose Mourinho last month after the Old Trafford hierarchy had deemed the 55-year-old too toxic to continue with.

Manchester United have resembled their swaggering old selves in the time since with victories over Cardiff, Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Reading.

And The Sun say Ferguson gave a stunning speech to players, insisting they can achieve greatness.

It has been a difficult season for both United stars and their supporters.

The Premier League title is already out of reach – with Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham instead jostling for the prize.

But The Sun say Ferguson told United players that he believes they can still end a turbulent campaign a high.

A source is quoted as saying: “He told the lads that this group will make United dominant and successful again.

“He said that he believes in them and he wants them to enjoy themselves and to fight hard for each other and leave everything on the pitch.

“He also told them that the club is in good hands.

“And he promised them that it will become bigger and better in the years to come and they will be part of this success.

“The players believe that there are some good times ahead.”

The report says United players are firmly behind Solskjaer.

And they now want to win a trophy for both him and Ferguson.

“The players want to repay Sir Alex for his support and kind words and are determined to win something for him and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season,” the source added.

United are next in action against Tottenham on Sunday (4.30pm).
