Square Enix news: Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Kingdom Hearts 3, Dragon Quest Smash Bros

Square Enix fans are still waiting patiently for more details on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced back at E3 2015 with the first gameplay trailer debuting later that year at PSX.

But since then it’s been slim pickings, with only a handful of new screenshots released in 2017 all fans have had to go on.

However, that could all be about to change – according to one alleged Final Fantasy 7 Remake leak.

In a post on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Reddit page the alleged leak was outlined, which claims a big event is coming up in April 2019.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake event will allegedly be streamed live on Twitch and YouTube and it will reveal a PS4 release date of late 2020.

However, as the Redditor explains, this should be taken with a “huge grain of salt” as the ‘leak’ was posted on notorious internet message board 4chan.

Responding to the post, one Redditor wrote: “Most of that sounds fake…The whole thing probably is fake”.

While another added: “Nothing leaps out at me about this either way.

This leak writer at least seems to have done their research on a few requirements for plausibility.

“But this isn’t anything I couldn’t have come up with myself if I took it into my head to write such a thing.

“It’s nice to dream though.”

In other Square Enix news, the Kingdom Hearts 3 release date on PS4 and Xbox One is fast approaching.

The latest chapter of the Disney JRPG is due out on January 25 2019.

And ahead of the big release date, director Tetsuya Nomura opened up about the game’s delays, which he attributes partly to a change in engine.

Speaking to EDGE, Nomura-san said: “We had our own company reasons, essentially. It wasn’t something that we had anything to do with, it was decided higher up.

Kingdom Hearts 3

“It was a whole year that we had to kind of rewind and restart. As a dev tool, Unreal Engine 4 is kind of an all-in-one – it’s got all of the stuff that is needed in it, it’s used around the world, and we also got really great support from Epic Games.

“They were very helpful through the entire process.

“It would have been a different story if the team making Luminous had been members of the Kingdom Hearts team.

But they were a different team, so that did make things a bit more difficult.”

Dragon Quest

And finally, we round up Square Enix news today with the latest rumours about the iconic Dragon Quest series.

According to dataminers, a Dragon Quest character will be one of the paid-for DLC fighters in Smash Bros.

We already know that the first DLC character for Smash will be Joker from Persona 5.

And dataminers have discovered file names which they speculate shows Erdrick from Dragon Quest will be one of the upcoming Smash brawlers.

Smash dataminers found alleged DLC fighter files that relate to the word brave – and Erdrick’s vocation in Dragon Quest is hero, referred to as yusha in Japan.

This translates directly to brave.

It’s believed alternate skins for Erdrick will include Dragon Quest 10’s Anlucia and the hero of Dragon Quest 11.

It’s also rumoured that other Dragon Quest games will be ported over to the Nintendo Switch, in addition to Dragon Quest 11.
