Rami Malek Golden Globes 2019: The weird souvenir Malek took to awards ceremony REVEALED

Actor Rami Malek starred in Queen movie Bohemian Rhapsody, playing the enigmatic Freddie Mercury. The film was the surprise winner at the Golden Globes on January 6, taking two major prizes. Bohemian Rhapsody won best film drama and best drama actor for Malek’s role in the film.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight following his big win, Malek revealed the bizarre souvenir he had brought with him to the award ceremony.

It was a gold cast of the teeth he wore to portray Freddie Mercury in the film.

The 37-year-old said of the teeth: “Not only did I save them, I cast them in gold. And that’s not something I would normally do.

“But I thought, what is the most audacious, ostentatious thing Freddie would do?”

Pointing at his Golden Globe award, he added: “And so now I have a counter-part for Freddie’s teeth.”

“I don’t want to say where the teeth are, because then I feel like people are gonna come after the teeth.”

The actor did, however, give away where he had hidden the strange memento when he patted his chest.

The interviewer thought he meant metaphorically in his heart, but Malek added: “They’re in my pocket. I’m not gonna take them out but they’re there.”

The interviewer confirmed they were indeed in his pocket when she reached out to touch it.

Queen lead vocalist Freddie was known for his stand-out teeth, as he was born with four extra incisors.

The singer reportedly didn’t have the extra teeth removed as he believed they gave him an increased range in his singing.

In Malek’s acceptance speech for his best drama actor award, the actor thanked Mercury and commended Queen for their role in the film.

Following his big win, Malek is now one of the favourites to win the Oscar for Best Actor – however, faces stiff competition from Bradley Cooper for his role in A Star Is Born and Christian Bale for his portrayal of Dick Cheney in Vice.

According to Ladbrokes, Malek is odds-on to scoop the award at 4/7, with Christian Bale at 9/4 after his Best Actor in a comedy or musical Golden Globe win.

Cooper is at 3/1 to win the Best Actor Oscar at the awards ceremony on February 25.

Meanwhile, according to Betway, Olivia Coleman is one lead runner at 9/4 for the Best Actress Oscar following her Golden Globe win for her performance in The Favourite.

However, she faces competition from Glenn Close, for her performance in The Wife at 5/6 to win the Oscar.

Lady Gaga is next in the running at 4/1 for her role in A Star is Born.
