Huawei P20 Pro was announced in March last year and its successor, the presumably-titled P30 Pro, is expected to be announced at a similar time.

P20 Pro was one of the best features thanks to its gorgeous display, impressive battery life and incredibly capable cameras.

The Chinese flagship arrived with a 6.1-inch AMOLED display, a huge 4,000mAh battery and a fast Kirin 970 processor.

But its triple-camera array was by far its headline act and was capable of capturing laudable shots.

P20 Pro came with a 40-megapixel main sensor that was accompanied by a 20-megapixel monochrome system and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens.

All three combined to produce an incredibly diverse photo-capturing experience for owners.

Since its debut, the P20 Pro has received an upgrade to Android 9 Pie, meaning it is now capable of running Google’s latest and greatest software.

The meteoric success of the P20 Pro both critically and from fans has placed much pressure on its successor to not only deliver myriad flagship features, but to also radically innovate with new concepts, too.

While rumours are starting to heat up surrounding the P20 Pro’s successor, Express.co.uk has put together our list of the features we want to see from Huawei’s next P-series device.

Vital display improvements

While the P20 Pro’s display was commendable thanks to its great viewing angles and vibrant colours, the resolution of the panel was limited to 1080p.

Such a resolution is lower than not only Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro device, but also a host of other hardware that offer screens that are 1440p.

Moreover, the P20 Pro came with noticeable bezels on the bottom of the device and a notch at the top.

We would like to see Huawei not only ensure the P30 Pro’s display is 1440p, but also radically shave the bezels around the AMOLED panel itself.

Alleged images of the Huawei P30 Pro recently leaked thanks to a host of Olixar cases.

The handset was shown featuring a teardrop-shaped notch at the top, meaning the display cutout could be vastly smaller this time around.

Moreover, the bezels at the bottom of the hardware had been reduced thanks to the removal of the physical fingerprint reader.

However, it is worth noting the accuracy of the images from Olixar has not been discussed by Huawei.

Monochrome is not as useful as a wide-angle

One of the Huawei P20 Pro’s most unique features was its monochrome camera lens that was capable of taking detailed images with a black and white aesthetic.

However, in practise the sensor was not as useful in real-world situations as the wide-angle array offered by the Chinese tech giant’s Mate 20 Pro hardware.

In fact, we loved the wide-angle lens on Huawei’s newer device and was one of the reasons we handed the device our best phone of 2018 award.

The Huawei P30 Pro should take from the Mate 20 Pro by adding a wide-angle sensor.

Such a lens could also be improved by reducing the quality differences between it and the phone’s main sensor.

New methods of accessibility

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro was one of the first smartphones on the market to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor.

While the futuristic new unlocking method does not work quite as quickly as a traditional reader on the outside of a device, the technology can certainly be improved.

We would like the see the Huawei P30 Pro ditch its physical reader on the front of the device in exchange for one underneath its panel.

Moreover, the Chinese tech giant should also focus on improving the accuracy and speed of the scanner itself.

Making Twilight one of many standout colours

The Huawei P20 Pro was the first device from the firm to debut in a Twilight colour variant.

Such a colour was immediately striking for its gradient finish that melded purple and blue colours together.

The tech behemoth should expand upon the colour by making more alternatives available.

Before its official reveal, notable leaker Ben Geskin posted a concept image of the Huawei Nova 4 on Twitter that boasted a gradient finish that melded yellow, orange and red colours.

Such a design looked incredibly appealing and generated excitement for new colours the Chinese firm could offer in the future.

Driving the smartphone industry forward

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro was one of the most innovative phones of last year thanks to its wealth of new and exciting features.

Not only did the handset nail flagship features users expect, but it also added an in-display fingerprint, a new camera system and reverse wireless charging.

The latter allowed the Mate 20 Pro to power other devices that were placed on its rear.

In our opinion the P30 Pro does not only need to match the Mate 20 Pro in terms of pure functionality, but it also has to build upon its solid foundation by offering fresh tools that no other devices tout.
