Mate 20 Pro might be eclipsed by something even more special from Huawei

Huawei Mate 20 Pro is one of the best smartphones on the market thanks a legion of compelling features.

In fact, Express.co.uk recently awarded the handset our coveted phone of the year award for 2018.

The Mate 20 Pro not only nailed the basics of any flagship smartphone, but it also drove the market forward thanks to a number of laudable innovations.

Huawei’s device comes with a 6.39-inch display, a huge 4,200mAh battery and runs the latest version of Android.

The hardware also comes with a fingerprint sensor underneath its display and is capable of charging other phones that are placed on its rear panel.

However, the phone’s standout feature is by far its triple-camera array that is capable of snapping gorgeous shots.

The Mate 20 Pro comes with a 40-megapixel main sensor that is accompanied by a 20-megapixel wide-angle lens and an 8-megapixel telephoto system.

The former is best utilised to fit more subjects into a single frame while the latter offers a 3-times optical zoom for fans to enjoy.

While the Mate 20 Pro is an incredibly capable device, it appears it could soon be eclipsed by an even more special phone from Huawei.

The Chinese tech giant recently filed for a patent in China regarding a new case that appears to be for an unannounced smartphone.

The cover in question appears to feature a camera cutout that is a rectangular shape rather than the square camera housing present on the Mate 20 Pro.

The extra room appears to hint Huawei could be planning to launch a device later this year with five cameras on its rear.

Moreover, the shape of the case suggests it could be designed for a potential Mate 20 Pro successor.

It is currently unclear what the function of two more potential lenses could be.

However, it is presumed Huawei will retain a standard, telephoto and wide-angle sensor for a presumably-titled Mate 30 Pro.

Nokia has been rumoured to be planning the release of a new smartphone dubbed the 9 PureView that could also deliver five cameras.

A photo of the alleged hardware was recently shown by notable tipster Evan Blass on Twitter.

Before releasing a Mate 20 Pro successor, Huawei is expected to debut the P30 Pro.

Such a handset is presumed to be unveiled in March and leaks have suggested the device could flaunt four cameras on its back panel.

However, it is worth noting nothing about either the P30 Pro or a Mate 20 Pro successor have been officially confirmed by the Chinese tech giant.
