James Bond 25: Bohemian Rhapsody’s Rami Malek speaks out on rumours he’ll play the villain

Malek impressed as Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic, which broke box office records despite lukewarm reviews from critics. The actor even earned a Golden Globe nomination for his performance, and is tipped to be recognised at the Oscars as well. So will 007 be next?

The actor has been touted numerous times to be in line for a role as an antagonist in the next James Bond caper, which goes into production in March.

Now, speaking to ET, he has spoken out on the speculation.

“We’ll have to see about that – it would be nice to play a villain, that would be another dream role for me,” he said.

“I’ve got to play so many great ones so far so who knows.”

He added cryptically: “I’m keeping tight-lipped.”

Malek does, however, have commitments to the TV series Mr Robot, which could stand in the way of him signing up for another blockbuster at this time.

The upcoming Bond movie is thought to be Daniel Craig’s last as the iconic spy.

The movie is out on Valentine’s Day next year, after being pushed back from its initial November 2019 release date.

Cary Fukunaga is directing, after Danny Boyle stepped down amid creative disagreements with the key team.

Speculation on who will replace Craig after Bond 25 is also ongoing; with Tom Hiddleston still the bookies’ favourite.

The likes of Idris Elba, James Norton, Tom Hardy and Justin Hartley also continue to receive support from punters.

James Bond 25 is out on February 14, 2019.
