Sky Sports reporter makes Arsenal transfer claim about team selection

The Wales international is set to leave Arsenal in the summer after a new contract offer was withdrawn by the club.

Ramsey’s current deal expires at the end of the season and it was claimed in Italy on Thursday that he had agreed a five-year deal.

But Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth believes Emery will keep on picking the Welshman because the boss doesn’t look at contract situations.

“The structure that’s in place at Arsenal – there’s people at Arsenal above Unai Emery who deal with all the contracts and who deals with the players,” Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast.

“Emery sees it as a 25-man squad and sees it as ‘right, this is the squad I have available for this game, what is the best team I can pick for this game?’

“He doesn’t think about a contract situation. The only time that a contract situation over Aaron Ramsey would come about is if Ramsey is actually being affected by all the talk and whether he’s going to leave or not.

“Every time I see him score he doesn’t look like a player who is unhappy.

“At the moment, he’s got all the cards. He’s got six months left on his Arsenal contract. He’s free to talk to foreign clubs now and signs a pre-contract agreement.

“While at Arsenal he seems to be giving everything. He celebrates every goal, he seems an Arsenal player.

“Emery doesn’t look at the contract – he looks at the player. If he decides Aaron Ramsey is the player who is going to lead us to as captain and help us beat Liverpool, then he’ll pick him.”

It was Italian news outlet Mediaset who suggested Ramsey had penned a deal with an announcement said to be coming in February.

Sheth described the whole thing as ‘strange’ and said: “They have got history of this. To be honest, I find the whole thing quite strange.

“It’s not become public what actually happened and Arsenal.

“There was a contract offer on the table by all accounts but then that was withdrawn.

“It seems Unai Emery is taking the club in a different direction – a direction without Aaron Ramsey. That said, Ramsey has been involved in most of Arsenal games albeit coming off the subs bench.

“Whenever you speak to Emery post-match, there doesn’t seem to be any ill feeling between Emery and Ramsey. It seems also that Emery is in a position where you’ve got a structure in place at Arsenal now where ehe’s the coach. He will coach the players, he will do what he has to do with the players he has available.

“Aaron Ramsey is under contract, he’s available and if that’s going to be beneficial for Arsenal, he’ll pick him.

“I don’t see an issue between manager and player so much. It’s more what’s happened between Aaron Ramsey and the hierarchy who were offering the contract in the first place.”
