LeBron James has been ruled out by the Lakers for the Friday night game and is expected to miss at least two more as he recovers from his groin strain.
“We got to get him healthy,” Lakers coach Luke Walton said about James.
“We talk all year, we need everyone on our team.
“You don’t want anyone to get hurt. That’s how the NBA season plays out.
“We’re down in bodies. It’s gonna be a challenge, but our guys should be excited for that.
“We gotta find a way to keep playing at a high level and try to finish some of these games out.”
The Lakers have slipped to 8th in the Western Conference and are 1-3 since James suffered his injury.
Kyle Kuzma is also questionable for the game after an MRI confirmed a lower back contusion – he missed second half of Wednesday’s 107-100 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“The back is tough,” Walton said.
“You can’t really play through back pain. You get locked up and you can’t move. He’s been getting treatment, and we’ll see how he’s feeling and moving around tonight.”
The Knicks, who are 9-29, are coming into this game after a 115-108 loss to the Denver Nuggets.
With several key players out or doubtful for the Lakers, the Knicks will be looking to put an end to their current eight-game losing streak.
One player who could help them achieve this is their nineteen-year-old small forward, Kevin Knox – who was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for December.
Knox though is unhappy James won’t be joining him on the court.
“This is one of the games I was coming into the season really looking forward to playing,” Knox said.
“LeBron is one of the players I was really looking forward to playing this season. But unfortunately, he’s not playing, I’m pretty sure.
“He’s got a lot of years left. I’ll probably see him down the road.’’
Many experts favour the Lakers to take the victory when they face off against the Knicks on Friday.
