Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 owners may soon be able to download Android 9 Pie early

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 launched in 2017 and at the time were Samsung’s top-tier devices.

Although both have since been succeeded by the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 respectively, the duo are still incredibly capable.

Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 still have some of the best displays on the market with both offering great viewing angles and a 1440p resolution.

The Galaxy S8 comes with a 5.8-inch AMOLED panel that offers a density of 570-pixels-per-inch.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note 8 offers a much larger 6.3-inch AMOLED display with a similarly high pixel density.

The device duo are both powered by either Samsung’s own Exynos 8895 chipset or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 depending on the region they are sold in.

Moreover, the devices similarly launched running Android 7 Nougat but since received upgrades to Android 8 Oreo.

Samsung recently announced the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S8 would also receive an update to the latest version of the Google operating system, Android 9 Pie.

In fact, the firm has confirmed when a swathe of its products will be granted the newest software.

Although the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S8 are expected to receive Android 9 Pie in February and March respectively, it appears Samsung fans could soon be offered the chance to access it early.

SamMobile has noted Samsung is currently testing software versions dubbed “G950FXXU4ZSA1”, “G955FXXU4ZSA1” and “N950FXXU5ZSA1” for the Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8.

Moreover, the outlet emphasised the letter Z in the code suggests the software in question is not a standard test version.

Instead it was iterated such software is most likely in a beta form.

SamMobile also noted the similarities in such code that was present in software builds for the Galaxy S9, S9+ and Note 9 before they received their respective beta programmes, suggesting Samsung’s older hardware could receive the same treatment.

Samsung held beta programmes for Android 9 Pie and its new One UI skin for the Galaxy S9, S9+ and Note 9 in regions across the globe.

Territories included the UK, the US, Germany, South Korea and India.

It is presumed if the Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8 do receive an Android 9 Pie beta programme it will take place in similar regions.

It is worth noting although the code spotted suggests a beta programme could take place in the near future, nothing about such an initiative has been officially confirmed by Samsung.
