Weight loss: The diet plan which helped a woman lose SIX stone and drop five dress sizes

From the Keto diet plan to living a Paleo lifestyle, there’s no shortage of options out there for ways to try shift the pounds. While upping your exercise and eating a balanced, healthy diet is what comes widely recommended, some diet plans can help dieters to kickstart their weight loss. However, Jodie Rigby-Mee, 32, has revealed that 12 years after losing an impressive six stone, she still happily follows the same plan these days. Her astonishing weight loss came after, at the age 17, she heard a group of men cruelly refereeing to her as “the fat friend”, while on a holiday with friends.

Jodie, who is 5’6”, weighed 16st and 7lbs at the time, and wore a woman’s dress size 20.

Having ended up back at her hotel room in tears, she decided to take action.

After returning home, Jodie – who currently lives in Royal Leamington Spa – joined her local Slimming World group.

The new diet plan proved to be a successful for Jodie, who lost an incredible six stone, and dropped to a dress size 10.

“Losing weight when I did completely changed my life,” she said.

“It gave me so much more confidence in every respect.

“I was able to pursue a career as cabin crew, including moving to Dubai for five years and becoming a safety trainer teaching people how to put out fires, jump down slides and float on life-rafts, which I’d never have been able to do at my heaviest.”

And, while some slimmers can eventually end up piling the pounds back on, Jodie has maintained her trimmer figure for an astonishing 12 years – which includes going through two pregnancies.

Jodie, who is now a Slimming World Consultant, said: “I’d tried other diets in the past but none of them taught me anything about food – I’d ‘spend’ all my allowances on unhealthy foods or end up starving hungry on shakes and pills.

“With Slimming World it was completely different and I still eat the same way today.”

What’s more, the healthy recipes on Slimming World’s Food Optimising plan could be enjoyed by her family too.

The mother-of-two explained: “It’s great because my husband and sons can eat the same meals, which wouldn’t have been possible with other diets – I’d obviously never put my sons on a low-carb plan!

“I’m currently training to run the London Marathon this April and Food Optimising allows me to fuel up properly before a long run.

“Plus, it’s easy to make healthy choices when I eat out too – nothing’s off the menu, because Food Optimising isn’t a diet to go on and go off, it’s a plan for life.”

So, what does Food Optimising mean for slimmers?

The concept is based on three steps, with the first being named Free Food – in which foods such as fruit, vegetables, lean meats, and potatoes, and pasta can be eaten freely.

Healthy Extras – such as milk, cheese, and cereals – can be enjoyed, but are measured into certain portions each day.

Lastly, slimmers can have a limited amount of Syns – such as biscuits, cakes, crisps, and dressings – each day.

Dr Jacquie Lavin, Head of Nutrition and Research at Slimming World said: “For decades at Slimming World we’ve promoted the importance of filling up on low energy density foods – including starchy and fibre-rich carbohydrates such as pasta, potatoes and rice – because you can eat large amounts of these foods for relatively few calories and feel fuller and more satisfied while losing weight.”
