The Chase star announces surprise engagement on Twitter – 'I proposed today!'

Paul Sinha, 48, has announced his engagement on Twitter, telling his 95.8 thousand followers he asked his boyfriend to marry him.

Sharing the good news, The Chase star wrote: “I proposed today. He said yes. Thus starts yet another diet.”

The post was retweeted more than 50 times in just four hours and he received hundreds of messages from fans.

One person wrote: “Well it’s about time! Congrats! You’re wearing white, right?”

“At least you already have the suit. Congratulations,” another said referring the comedian’s infamous white tuxedo.

A third tweeted: “Congratulations you, and he already said yes just as you are, so no diet needed.”

Someone else said: “Huge congrats Paul,” while a fifth fan quipped: “Congratulations! He took the higher offer, then.”

Two others shared: “Lovely news,” and “Congratulations Paul I hope you’ll be very happy.”

Paul previously opened up about being gay after it came as a shock to some fans of the popular ITV quiz show.

In 2017 he said: “I assumed everyone knew I was gay, I have been on the show for six years and I have made lots of references to being gay.”

“But they mysteriously never made the edit,” the quiz champion continued, saying he thinks it is because producers want to avoid it “becoming a thing”.

Speaking with GuysLikeU, the comic went on to discuss his relationship, saying he is “happy with a boyfriend”.

“We are in an open relationship, but can’t say more than that. One of the advantages of being gay is that there is no traditional template for how you are meant to engage with your partner,” the TV star stated.

“Hetero relationships are supposedly based on the idea of procreation and offering a loving environment for your children, therefore by definition would mean monogamy.

“Being gay we can make our own template that works for us.”

Paul’s sexuality made headlines on May 30 2017 when he failed to answer a question about video games correctly on The Chase.

Afterwards, he told host Bradley Walsh: “My ex was obsessed with Mario Kart. He also told me I didn’t pay enough attention. It’s been proved that he’s right.”

Later, Paul clarified his comments to Express.co.uk, explaining: “The point I was making, albeit clumsily, is that good quiz shows engage viewers in the contest even when they don’t know the answers to the questions.

“The Chase has always been a deceptively highbrow show, slipping in a large number of history, art, literature and philosophy questions; and in the same way that viewers enjoy University Challenge, much of The Chase’s fanbase enjoy the thrill of the contest even when they don’t know the answers.”

He added: “As for my sexuality, there has never been a problem between me and the show on this.

“In the scheme of things, it’s not relevant to my role on the show and I would not want it to become a dominant issue.”
