Jurgen Klopp begins Liverpool title race mind games: ‘They are the best team in the world’

Liverpool will have the chance to go ten points clear at the top of the Premier League with a win at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola heaped the pressure on Liverpool after his side won 3-1 at Southampton on Sunday.

The Spaniard said: “The problem is the other team is fantastic.

“[Liverpool are] maybe the best team in Europe or the world right now and in top form.”

Speaking on Wednesday in his press conference, Klopp responded to Guardiola’s assessment of the Reds.

“Very difficult game, one of the most difficult you can play in the football world,” he said.

“They’re a really strong football team with an outstanding manager.

“We need to be brave, full of desire and angry again.

“Man City are still the best football team in the world.

“We are in a good moment 100 per cent and we are a very good team too.”

Manchester City had made an electric start to the season until they were beaten 2-0 by Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea.

This was followed up by defeats against Crystal Palace and Leicester.

Liverpool remain the only unbeaten side in the Premier League, having dropped only six points all season.

But the German insists his side are not getting carried away.

“When I pass people on the streets, it’s still normal life,” he added.

“Do they like how the boys are playing? For sure.

“But it’s a lack of respect to think our fans are celebrating already.”
