Google Chrome on Windows 10 dark mode: How to enable dark mode in Chrome on Windows?

Google is believed to be working on a dark mode un-illuminated interface in Chrome for Windows 10. News first leaked that Google in September that the tech giant was building a dark mode for Google Chrome to be used when 10.14 Mojave was enabled. And users can now get an early taste of Google’s version of dark mode today.

Google has for over a year demanded Chrome should be compatible with Windows 10’s dark mode setting.

Windows 10 was originally supposed to receive dark mode support alongside macOS, but an early version of the Chrome code to detect Windows 10’s dark mode setting was found to feature some flaws.

These glitches lead Google to temporarily pause progress on the drafted code until they could acquire a Windows laptop.

It is now known Google dark mode for Windows and is near identical in aesthetic to the macOS version.

The Chrome developers included a command flag to force the browser to use dark mode to make dark mode easier to test.

Although the dark mode feature is not yet available on beta, it is available in Chrome Canary for Windows.

The dark mode can be enabled by right-clicking your Chrome Canary shortcut, selecting Properties, then adding “ –force-dark-mode” to the Target.

A similar method also reportedly works on macOS.

This dark mode development arrives a month after Google made it known it is also preparing to bring the dark mode to MacOS Mojave.

Google Chrome developer Peter Kasting said at the time: “For desktop, native dark mode support is in progress, in the meantime, we generally suggest people use the dark theme.”

Google Chrome comes with a default light theme and supports a dark theme in Incognito mode for private browsing.

Dark mode is an increasingly attractive aesthetic for consumers.

Popular browsers such as Firefox are among those prioritising on bringing the dark mode to their user interface.

And it is a similar situation with other apps too.

YouTube now supports dark mode and WhatsApp is rumoured to be preparing its own version.

Windows 10 already supports dark mode and Apple launched the new MacOS Mojave with the Dark Mode as its USP.
