Sandra Bullock stars in Bird Box as the strong and independent single mother Malorie in a world plagued by a mysterious force. Trevante Rhodes, breakthrough star of award-winning Moonlight, stars alongside Bullock as Tom.
Danielle Macdonald stars as Olympia, a fellow pregnant woman at the start of the film.
Colson Baker, aka Machine Gun Kelly, plays Felix, with Rosa Salazar (American Horror Story: Murder House ) as Lucy.
Sarah Paulson (The People v. O. J. Simpson, Carol) plays Jessica Hayes, Malorie’s sister.
Jacki Weaver plays a survivor of the mysterious apocalypse named Cheryl.
Weaver has been nominated for two Oscars, for her roles in Animal Kingdom and Silver Linings Playbook.
Tom Hollander plays a survivor named Greg, whose home the survivors are holed up in.
The inimitable John Malkovich plays Douglas, another survivor.
Lil Rel Howery, best known for playing Rod in Get Out, plays a survivor and aspiring novelist named Charlie.
Other cast members include Pruitt Taylor Vince as Rick, Vivien Lyra Blair as Girl, Julian Edwards as Boy, Parminder Nagra as Dr Lapham and Rebecca Pidgeon as Lydia.
Amy Gumenick also stars as Samantha, Taylor Handley as Jason, Happy Anderson as the River Man, David Dastmalchian as Whistling Marauder and Keith Jardine as Yelling Marauder.
Bird Box is directed by Susanne Bier, best known for directing the TV miniseries The Night Manager.
The screenplay was written by Eric Heisserer, horror veteran who wrote A Nightmare on Elm Street, Final Destination 5, The Thing and Lights Out.
The film is based on a 2014 novel of the same name by Josh Malerman.
Bird Box’s official plot synopsis reads: “When a mysterious force decimates the population, only one thing is certain – if you see it, you die.
“The survivors must now avoid coming face to face with an entity that takes the form of their worst fears.
“Searching for hope and a new beginning, a woman and her children embark on a dangerous journey through the woods and down a river to find the one place that may offer sanctuary.
“To make it, they’ll have to cover their eyes from the evil that chases them – and complete the trip blindfolded.”
