PS4 news: Big update for PlayStation gamers as secret Sony project is uncovered

The PlayStation 4 has had a lot of success over the past few months directly tied to their console exclusives.

Not available on Nintendo Switch, PC, or Xbox One, games like Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War and Detroit: Become Human have sold millions of copies.

They have also been proven to help PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles, something that has helped Sony reach 88 million units sold.

And it sounds like the company’s next big project is underway and looking for talent to help launch it.

PS4 news this week includes reports of Sony looking to hire for a new development team.

Multiple positions need filling and from the sound of some of the job listings, Sony PlayStation is looking to make something ambitious.

The new third-person adventure is being described as “the next chapter of cinematic storytelling.”

A Lead Character Artist is needed at Sony Interactive Entertainment PlayStation, with numerous references made to joining the team behind hits like Uncharted and The Last of Us.

And from the job description, many fans are hoping that this might be a project tied to a new Uncharted game.

It does sound hopeful, however, it should be noted that this remains pure speculation at this time.

Here’s the official job description, which reads: “Sony PlayStation Visual Arts provides world-class content, development and services to Worldwide Studios.

“We offer a full-service production studio with an emphasis in art, animation, as well as previsualization, character creation, motion capture, software development, face/body scanning, tracking and solving.

“We are looking for a highly talented, motivated and creative Lead Character Artist for the next chapter of cinematic story-telling.

“Here is your chance to be a part of the multi-award winning team responsible for the cinematic performances in premier Sony PlayStation franchises like Uncharted, The Last of Us, Killzone, and other iconic series.

“Our team is always at the cutting edge of technology and partners with the industry’s best minds and companies: Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studios, Guerrilla Games, Japan Studios, and other Sony PlayStation first-party studios.

“This is your opportunity to work closely with game and film industry professionals from all over the world and under one roof.”

Uncharted 4 remains one of the best selling first-party games from Sony PlayStation and is the game to beat when it comes to overall sales.

Could this be a new spin-off adventure set in the Uncharted universe? If it were, PS4 gamers could hope for its release.

However, if this is something much bigger, that would suggest that Sony might be working on a game for the PlayStation 5.

Rumours claim that the PS5 release date will be set for 2020 and include a range of first-party exclusives at launch.

And it’s fair to say that a new Uncharted game would certainly help a new console in the sales department.

Whatever this new project is, it seems likely it won’t be available to play in 2019.

But even if a new exclusive isn’t launched next year, fans know there are plenty that have already been announced.

Titles such as Dreams and Ghost of Tsushima are being launched next year and will be among other ambitious new titles.

Games like The Last of US Part 2 and Death Stranding dropping in the next 12 months wouldn’t help the chances of the PS4 continuing to sell well in 2019.

Sony PlayStation has already been backed to sell over 17 million units next year, which would help push the console even further in the all-time best selling console charts.

According to a report by research firm Strategy Analytics, the Nintendo Switch will be the best-selling console next year, with the PS4 in a close second.

“The report, Global Game Console Market Forecast, predicts that Nintendo will sell 17.3 million Switch consoles worldwide in 2019, while Sony will sell 17.1 million PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles.

“Microsoft will remain in third place, selling 10.0 million Xbox One and Xbox One X devices. The overall console market has performed well in 2018, with total global sales reaching 46.1 million devices, the highest level since 2010.”

Many analysts are expecting Sony to reveal their plans for the future of PlayStation next year, hopefully before E3 2019, which the company will not be attending.
