Carol Vorderman Twitter: ‘Nobody told me’ Countdown star learns of co-star's death

Carol Voderman, 58, was a mathematician on the Channel 4 show, Countdown alongside former host Richard Whiteley, who died in 2005. The maths whizz has now learned of the death of another former colleague on the show on Twitter. The presenter had asked her 386,000 Twitter followers of a particular song she wanted the name of to which one social media user replied: “Give Me The Night by George Benson.” But the Twitter user then informed the Countdown star of her colleague’s death when they wrote: “Carol I used to work with your colleague Richard Samson. Lovely, clever man. Died at 46. Give up smoking everyone!”

Carol responded to the social media user: “I didn’t know he’d passed away…Tall Richard? Richard Dictionary Corner Richard?”

To which the Twitter user informed the Countdown star it was indeed the same Richard who he said had emigrated to Australia and was “very fond” of Carol.

The former Countdown star replied: “That’s made me very sad. Nobody told me. I liked Richard Samson a lot… Richard Whiteley did too.”

Richard Samson was a lexicographer who first appeared on Countdown in 1990 making several appearances in the Dictionary Corner.

He reportedly died in 2011 after suffering from lung cancer.

Carol first rose to fame on the show Countdown which she co-presented for 26 years alongside Richard Whiteley who died at the age of 61 after a battle with pneumonia in 2005.

Elsewhere, the beauty took to Twitter to inform her fans she was off to party as she brought in the New Year.

She wrote: “Right…I’m off to a party now so THANK YOU happy Tweeters…here’s to is twittering away with glee next year,’ followed by kiss faced emojis.”

Fans flocked to her account to wish her well as one fan wrote: “Have a wonderful time. Happy New Year Carol.”

Another person said: “Enjoy your party. All the best for 2019.”

While a third person quipped: “Life for Vorders appears to be just one party after another. Enjoy your night Carol.”

Meanwhile, the age-defying beauty showed off her curves when she stepped out at the Welsh Grand National last week.

The former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! contestant showed off her mesmerising curves in a striking red gown.

Carol oozed confidence as she showcased her eye-popping figure in the skintight number.

Posing with the race track in the background, Carol struck the camera a massive grin.
