Fortnite New Year event LIVE: Epic Games surprises fans with special NYE update

fans are in for a surprise when they login to Battle Royale over the new year.

A surprise Fortnite New Year event has gone live in the Battle Royale game.

In a video shared by Dakotaz, Fortnite games will be interrupted by a giant disco ball and fireworks when the clock counts down to midnight in different countries.

When the countdown ends and the fireworks begin, players will temporarily be forced to dance in celebration of the new year.

Epic co-founder Mark Rein confirmed the event in a series of tweets earlier today.

“It’s already New Years Eve in the Christmas Island, in the country of Kiribati and it will soon be New Years Eve in Fiji,” he writes.

Asked if the celebration would take place every time it hits new year in different countries, he replied: “I’ve seen it twice now so I think the answer is yes to your question! It’s really beautiful to watch in-game so enjoy and HAPPY NEW YEAR!”

In addition to the in-game celebration, Epic is promoting a special Fortnite live stream involving Ninja.

“Looking for something fun to do for New Year’s Eve?” reads an Epic tweet. “Tune into the #Fortnite X @Ninja New Years event! Starting at 4 PM EST 12/31.”

Streaming live on Twitch, Ninja will be showing off his Fortnite skills from Time Square.

For UK fans, the event kicks off at 9pm GMT. Head over to the Fortnite Twitch page for more information.
