Pokemon Go news: Shiny Pokemon boost as Trainers prepare for big January events

Pokemon Go Trainer across the world have had a lot of new events and bonuses to enjoy these past few months.

And it appears that there will be plenty of stuff to do in January as well.

Fans of Pokemon Go will be getting access to new EX Raids on January 4 and 5.

The special about this upcoming event is that the powerful Deoxys forme has shifted, meaning you can now battle and collect a variant.

Qualifying for an EX Raid is not automatic and usually rules out rural players from having a chance.

You become eligible to receive an EX Raid Pass when you win a Raid Battle at a qualifying Gym.

You’ll be able to see which Gyms can host an EX Raid through a tag when you look at the Gym details.

This has helped remove some of the mystery surrounding EX Raid process, with EX Raid Passes also giving you the date and time when you’ll be able to challenge Attack Forme Deoxys.

“Battling Attack Forme Deoxys will be a difficult challenge that requires Trainers to take advantage of every opportunity—so don’t forget to invite a friend to go along with you!

“Remember: invites can only be sent to an Ultra Friend or Best Friend, so don’t forget to battle with friends, send Gifts, and trade Pokémon to build up your Friendship level.”

For now, the best counters to Deoxys have been confirmed as Gengar, Mewtwo, Absol and Tyranitar.

Deoxys A will likely have around 45K CP and is weak against Ghost, Dark and surprisingly, Bug Pokemon.

Trainers can also look forward to a new Pokemon Go January Community Day in the coming weeks.

This is being held on January 12 and will offer the chance of catching Totodile.

A special move will be announced before the event, while shiny Totodiles will also be available to catch.

And that won’t be the only cool shinies to add to your collection in January.

Fans who earn a Field Research Breakthrough in January will have a chance to encounter two Legendary Pokemon.

From January 1 until the end of February, Lugia and Ho-Oh will join the current list of Legendary rewards.

“The year 2019 is around the corner, and it’s already looking to be legendary!” reads a Niantic tweet.

“When you reach a Research Breakthrough in January and February, you’ll have the chance to encounter several Legendary Pokémon, including Lugia and Ho-Oh!”

Lugia and Ho-Oh join the current crop of Breakthrough Pokemon, which includes Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Raikou, Entei and Suicune.

“All eight of these Pokemon will be available as potential Research Breakthrough encounters until the end of February,” Niantic confirms.

And with these new inclusions comes the chance of potential shiny Pokemon to catch.

According to the latest reports, these are the Legendary Pokemon that could be shiny during January: Lugia, Ho-Oh, Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres.

Whatever happens next month, it looks like there will be plenty to do on Pokemon Go.
