Bird Box on Netflix showed the monsters TWICE: Did you spot THIS?

The simplest ideas are always the most effective. Earlier this year A Quiet Place set up the terrifying world where the slightest noise would bring death. Bird Box has been a massive hit on Netflix as Sandra Bullock’s Malorie fights to save herself and two children in a world where the slightest glimpse of a monster causes almost everyone to commit suicide. The movie makes a virtue of never revealing the monsters. Except, there are actually two separate brief scenes where the monsters are shown. Did you spot them?

The film’s director previously explained why viewers never get a clear look at the monsters.

She said: “I pretty much feel that with creature movies – and they can be amazing, I recognize they are amazing – but there’s always a part of me that goes, ‘I’m not scared now. I’ve seen it.’”

The filmmakers originally created a scene where Malorie confront one of the monsters directly, but it was scrapped for a variety of reasons.

However, at two separate points in Bird Box, the monsters are shown.

The first is a chilling moment when one of the monsters goes past the house where Malorie and others are hiding. All that is shown ins a silhouette.

The second look is courtesy of Tom Hollander’s creepy Gary. His character reveals that it is possible to survive seeing the creatures, but only if you are insane.

Gary has drawn the monsters over and over, and a sharp-eyed viewer screengrabbed the brief glimpse of the black and white sketches piled up on a table.

They look like the typical monster alien seen so many times on screen with two large black eyes and tentacles coming out of their mouths.

Of course, that is the point. The monsters show their victims their greatest fears, so it is logical they would apear to Gary like the stereotypical evil alien from popular culture.

Biere explained further: “Whatever those beings are, they tap into your deepest fear. Everybody’s deepest fear is going to be different from the other person. I think to suddenly take upon a concrete shape in order to illustrate that becomes weak. Where the conceit is really strong, then trying to illustrate it is kind of almost meaningless. So it would have been the wrong decision.”
