Arsenal news: Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri snubbed job because of THIS conversation

Arsenal were linked with Juventus boss Allegri following Arsene Wenger’s decision to quit the Emirates back in May.

The Italian – along with Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta – quickly became a favourite for the post before Unai Emery was ultimately given the job.

With Arsenal no longer an option for Allegri, the Juventus boss has now been tipped to become Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor at Manchester United.

Yet the Evening Standard have now delved into how close the Old Lady coach actually came to replacing Wenger in north London.

It is said the 51-year-old is open to working in the Premier League.

And, back in the summer, he reportedly talked with Arsenal about the job.

However, one thing deterred him from taking over.

The Evening Standard say Arsenal’s failure to promise him a big transfer kitty dissuaded him from leaving Turin.

And that ultimately forced them to turn to Emery instead.

Manchester United could now be Allegri’s next destination, with reports claiming he is their back-up to Mauricio Pochettino.

But, speaking ahead of Juventus’ Serie A clash with Sampdoria today, Allegri downplayed talk of a Premier League switch.

“I have a contract with Juventus and I am happy here,” Allegri said.

“We are doing a great job together with the fans.

“There are many games to win before the end of the season, there is time before June.

“Italian football is fascinating, I am not tired of it. I want to stay to improve Italian football.

“Outside this world there are many things to be done, we need to involve the kids to build a better future for this game.”
