Solskjaer replaced Mourinho until the end of the season and has already seen an improvement.

They beat Cardiff 5-1 and then Huddersfield 3-1 with Paul Pogba instrumental in both games.

Several key players struggled under Mourinho, including Pogba and the mood was foul.

Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez are yet to play under the treble-winning striker due to compassionate leave and injury.

And Solskjaer admits he can’t work out why those two in particular have underperformed for United.

“I cannot tell you,” he said.

“I’ve just been looking at the team, so many good players and when you get these confident looking forward to games we have a confident squad, it is we back then, it’s part of me.

“But it’s a different thing when you’re a fan on the outside, it’s very easy to see he should be playing, suddenly you end up with six forwards, six centre-backs, my thing now is how Romelu, Alexis, Anthony, Jesse, Marcus, Juan, six forwards, will you play with more than four at a time? I’m not sure?

“The rotation and communication between players is important.”

Solskjaer has Lukaku and Sanchez back in training and could use them against Bournemouth this weekend.

However they may have wait patiently for a chance due to the form of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in attack and Jesse Lingard in midfield.

And Solskjaer has denied that he has unlocked Pogba, insisting the player has done the work himself.

“I don’t agree I’ve done that with Paul and I can do that with Romelu and Alexis. It’s up to them when they get a chance,” Solskjaer said.

“That’s the name of the game when you’re a footballer. You’ve got to do it yourself. Yes, you want help from your manager and your team mates.

“I’m here to help them, guide them on the path, and then it’s up to them to do it on the pitch.”
