eBay: ‘Rare’ £2 coin listed for HUNDREDS on auction site – do you have one in your change?

eBay seller rita6rita has listed the “rare” £2 coin with a starting bid of £300. Describing the coin, the seller wrote: “Good condition”, but did not offer any other information. So why is the seller so confident this coin will sell for the hundreds it has been listed for? Royal Mint explained how the design came in to being and the history of the coin.

They wrote: “Trinity House was formed by Royal Charter under Henry VIII in 1514.

“The organisation was tasked with improving the safety of Britain’s waterways and for 500 years Trinity House has tirelessly served the mariner.

“To honour the 500th Anniversary of this respected organisation, a £2 coin entered circulation.

“The reverse features a design by Joe Whitlock Blundell, Production Director of The Folio Society, created with the help of David Eccles, a retired illustrator and printer.

“It captures the spirit of Trinity House with an enduring symbol of the seas – the lighthouse.”

The coin, which was minted in 2014, has a mintage of 3,705,000.

According to Change Checker, the coin not rare, and has a scarcity index rating of eight, which is common.

It is, however, a handsome coin, so collectors may wish to have one in their possession to enjoy.

There are other £2 coins that are listed on eBay for vast sums, most notably the Charles Dickens coin.

An eBay seller has taken note of all the rare coins which have sold for extremely high prices this year, and has jumped on the bandwagon with their Charles Dickens £2 coin, which was first issued in 2012.

The user, whose profile name is hawaiian-vibes, has a feedback rating of 99.3 per cent and has sold an impressive 1199 items.

They are now looking to flog their £2 coin for an eye-watering £3,745.

It’s not the first time a Charles Dickens coin from 2012 has been sold for a high amount, with one in March this year sold for £2,500  on the bidding site.

The latest eBay listing of the rare coin quickly garnered plenty of attention, with the ‘buy it now’ option switched on for those who want to snap it up instantly.

And if coin collectors act fast they could have it by Monday 17 December, as this seller is offering free delivery for the special piece of memorabilia.
