‘We will see a big reaction’ – Chelsea prediction made by BBC Sport pundit

That is according to Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson.

The Blues suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat to Leicester in their last home fixture, denting their grip on fourth place.

London rivals Arsenal are now on their tails, and Maurizio Sarri’s side only lead the Gunners on goal difference.

Next up for Chelsea is a short trip north to Watford, where they lost 4-1 last season in Javi Gracia’s first home game in charge.

Although the mercurial Hornets have the ability to sting whichever opponents they face, BBC Sport pundit Lawrenson thinks Chelsea will be extra motivated to get a positive result.

“I just think we will see a big reaction from Chelsea in this game following their home defeat by Leicester,” Lawrenson wrote in his matchday predictions column.

“Maurizio Sarri will have been very unhappy, to say the least, after that result.”

The Italian tactician was in a foul mood after being hunted by the Foxes, and even deplored his side’s failure to react in his post-match comments last Saturday.

“You can go 1-0 down, the important thing is how you are able to react,” Sarri said.

“There was the time to score two goals. The match changed after the goal. We played well for 55 minutes, after the goal the reaction was not the right reaction.

“We reacted a little shocked and with mental confusion. We had to only keep playing like we did before the goal, there was time to recover.”

Nevertheless, Lawrenson believes Chelsea will bounce back with a 2-1 win at Vicarage Road, despite Watford claiming a surprise 2-0 win at West Ham last time out.

“Watford had to do a lot of defending at West Ham on Saturday but they left with the points,” Lawrenson assessed.

“They are always capable of coming up with that sort of result.”
