What Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did in tunnel minutes after match is class

Having won his first game in charge after a hectic week at Old Trafford, you could have forgiven Solksjaer for making a beeline to the dressing room on Saturday.

But not Solskjaer. The man renowned for his class and positivity showed just that minutes after the final whistle.

Waiting in the tunnel after the 5-1 win was talkSPORT broadcaster and Sky Sports News anchor Jim White.

White was filming as Solskjaer was walking in, during which he said: “Ole, congratulations.”

But while Mourinho often had a frosty relationship with the media, Solskjaer has got off to the right start.

Solskjaer diverted his walk to shake White’s hands before saying: “Thank you very much, cheers.”

The Norwegian cut a happy figure after the win – then warned the best is yet to come.

While Jose Mourinho’s side lacked style, substance and togetherness, Solskajer’s was anything but.

He oversaw United’s first five-goal haul in a Premier League match since Sir Alex Ferguson’s last game in May 2013 – just four days after being appointed.

Asked if there were any positives, Solskjaer laughed and said: “There’s quite a few.

“The attitude and application of the boys when you go out there and see them, the attitude has been fantastic, the dressing room, the way they approached this game.

“It’s been a difficult week for everyone and to get the focus and perform as well as they did [is impressive].”

Jesse Lingard netted a second-half double while Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera and Anthony Martial all got one each. Victor Camarasa netted a penalty for the hosts.

“I’m pleased with all of them – every single one of them – but of course it’s a threat,” Solskjaer added.

“When you’ve got Martial and Jesse Lingard down either side, Rashford up top with Paul supporting them, it’s exhilarating to watch and as long as we keep that standard up we’ll keep picking up points.

“We’ll take one game at a time but we’re eight points behind [the top four] and we’ve caught up teams before at this club.

“Now, though, we’ve got to catch up a couple, but our job is to take one game at a time.

“Don’t look too far ahead but we always play well in second half of the season. Man United teams always do.”
