Star Wars 9: Will Padme return? Natalie Portman RESPONDS to speculation

The character was seen dying at the end of the final prequels movie, Revenge of the Sith. She had just given birth to her twins Luke and Leia, who were played as adults in the original and sequel trilogies by Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. With Episode 9 set to round out the entire Skywalker saga, it had been speculated that perhaps Padme could appear, be it in flashback or in a dream or spiritual sequence.

But it seems that if that is going to happen, nobody’s told Portman herself yet.

“I don’t know anything about that,” she said, when asked during an interview with BuzzFeed’s AM to DM.

“I’m guessing that’s not true because I don’t know about it yet.”

Portman had recently revealed that she found it difficult to find roles after playing Padme first time around.

“Everyone thought I was a horrible actress,” she told the New Yorker.

“I was in the biggest-grossing movie of the decade, and no director wanted to work with me.”

It was Mike Nicholas who came through; casting her in his 2001 stage production of The Seagull and enabling her to show what she was really capable of.

“Mike wrote a letter to [late director] Anthony Minghella and said ‘put her in Cold Mountain, I vouch for her’,” Portman went on.

“And then Anthony passed me on to Tom Tykwer, who passed me on to the Wachowskis [who cast her in V For Vendetta].”

Since then, she has won an Oscar for her work in Black Swan – with many online thinking she should have also been victorious for Jackie.

Star Wars: Episode 9 is currently in production, with a trailer rumoured – but now seemingly unlikely – to drop before the end of the month.

Star Wars 9 is out in December 2019.
