Why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is RIGHT man to replace Jose Mourinho at Man Utd – Pep Guardiola

Guardiola, though, has an opposing view, saying that the 45-year-old will benefit from his experiences with the Red Devils.

“When a manager like Solskjaer has this chance [it is] because the club decide he can do it. It happened in my case quite similar, we were young and had the opportunity so try to do our best,” Guardiola said.

“Of course they are different jobs, so you cannot compare football player as a manager. I wish him all the best.”

Guardiola managed boyhood club Barcelona from 2008-2012 and turned the Catalan side into one of the most dominant forces in the history of football.

The City boss won 14 trophies in his four-year spell managing the club and largely created ‘tiki-taka’ football.

Guardiola mentioned that being attached to the club for such a long time helped him when he eventually got the chance to manage them.

“The fact I was there since 13 years old, you know the club that is an advantage for sure. Knowing the people and knowing how it works everything there is important,” he said.

“Something positive comes from the fact you were there in the past and you know many things of the club.”

Guardiola has since gone on to manage Bayern Munich, before taking over at City in 2016, where he’s since won the League Cup and the Premier League last season in a record-setting campaign.

Something Mourinho did do at United, was beat City at the Etihad last season to delay Guardiola’s title celebrations.

Solskjaer, though, has a big job on his hands, and will want to do as well as possible in the next few months if he’s to stand a chance of keeping the role on a permanent basis.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino looks poised to take over next summer, with rumours swirling around the Argentine that he’s “interested” in the job.
