Ryan Thomas: ‘A bad time’ Coronation Street star recalls experience with Bear Grylls

Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas, 34, said he wouldn’t take part in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! because he thinks it would be similar to his time on Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls last year. The actor said while he enjoyed his experience overall, he struggled with the lack of food and facilities in which he referred to as a “bad time”. When asked if he will follow in the footsteps of his brother Adam Thomas, 30, and take part on I’m A Celebrity, he exclusively told Express.co.uk: “I think I’ve already ticked that box off in my head. As far as that experience goes, they’re very similar.

“We didn’t eat for eight days and we didn’t have water for three days and then it rained and it was cold and we didn’t really sleep for the whole time we were there.

“You’re lying on the floor for a whole month in the middle of the jungle.

“I can’t imagine I’d wanna do something like that again. I wanted to do something with Bear Grylls, I really wanted to work with him on a project.”

He added, laughing: “It would be silly of me to revisit that very bad time in my life.

“Making it to the end was an achievement but to go and do it again when I don’t need to would be silly.”

Ryan took part in the Channel 4 show with his now-girlfriend Lucy Mecklenburgh, 27.

In a recent interview, the Celebrity Big Brother winner said the brunette beauty had been “dropping hints” about getting engaged.

He told this week’s OK! Magazine: “She’s always dropping hints about what she wants to happen. I think Lucy wants me to propose next year!”

Lucy added: “You’d better get saving because I want a really heavy left hand.”

She added: “I wouldn’t waste my time with someone if I didn’t believe we were on the same page about children and getting married.

“I know we both want the same things in the future.”

But before marriage and children, the couple revealed they are planning to buy a house together.

Lucy said: “We’re going to buy a house together. We’ve been together for a year and a half now so the time feels right to take the next step.”

Meanwhile, Ryan and his brother Adam have been involved with the Heineken’s Brewing Good Cheer campaign.

The campaign has been launched in a bid to tackle social isolation over the festive period.

Ryan said: “There are 100 of these lunches going around the country, all over December.

“Christmas is a time where people can feel lonely, so they’re highlighting that factor and doing something about it.”

Bear’s Mission With Gareth Southgate airs tonight at 9pm on ITV.
