Pokemon Go Shiny Totodile UPDATE: January Community Day news revealed

Niantic is continuing the popular Community Day event into January 2018.

The first details of the upcoming 2019 event were announced today and includes some important news.

Pokemon Go Trainers will get the chance to catch Shiny Totodiles on Saturday, January 12.

This is when Niantic are planning to host the popular event, which will also include other bonuses and rewards.

As usual, the Pokemon Go Community Day event will run for three hours and will include increased Totodile spawns.

The timing will run as follows:

  • Europe and India: January 12, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. UTC (GMT +0)
  • The Americas and Greenland: January 12, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. PST (GMT −8)
  • Asia: January 13, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. JST (GMT +9)

As mentioned above, new rewards will also be available to use during the three-hour event, including a special move that can be learnt.

Rewards for January will include 4x incubators effectiveness, 3-hour lures and a special move for Feraligatr.

Fans will need to evolve a Totodile into a Feraligatr to earn the exclusive move, which has not been announced yet.

The special bonus will be announced before the January Community Day event launch and will play a more important role than in the past.

This is because players can now use this new special move in PvP combat, making it more valuable.

Discussing the new event, Trainers on Reddit made the case for what could make the Community Day selection viable in PvP.

One user wrote: “In raids, HC Feraligator should be better than Gyarados.

“In PvP, Blastoise will be stronger, but Feraligator can also learn Crunch, which is a very useful second move.”

Another added: “It has 205 ATK, vs. Blastoise’s 171. It also gets Waterfall compared to Water Gun.

“I don’t remember where it was projected in overall water rankings, but it will be much stronger than Blastoise for PvE purposes.”

Fans might be surprised to hear that the rules found in Gym Raids are not the same in the new PvP arena.

While everything on the surface looks similar, Niantic has made some big changes.

Fast Moves are the bread and butter of the new Trainer Battles and are different from those used in other modes.

Fast Moves are used in turns, with each turn lasting 0.5 seconds, bringing with a tweak to how damage and energy work.

So the higher energy output and damage per turn are the moves that all Trainers will want in their lineup.

From research posted on Reddit, the best fast moves appear to be Counter, Dragon Breath and Rock Throw.

And when it comes to Charge Moves, Niantic has made it so all of them fire at the same time, meaning it’s all about getting the most damage from the least energy drain possible.

One of the biggest changes here is that players can now unlock a second charge move for their Pokemon.

This can create a big advantage on the battlefield but is something that comes with a massive cost.

A lot of Stardust and Pokemon Candies are required to unlock this and means that players will be saving up.

So fans are also curious to find out how this secondary slot will work when it comes to the new January Community Day event.
