Man Utd news: Sky Sports pundit makes Pochettino revelation after Mourinho sacking

Manchester United have chosen to part ways with Mourinho, sparking talk that Tottenham boss Pochettino could be named as his permanent successor.

For now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will oversee things with the Norwegian named as interim manager earlier today.

Express Sport understands, however, that Manchester United want Pochettino. The Argentine is the overwhelming favourite to take over, with Ed Woodward supposedly a fan.

And Stam, speaking on Sky Sports, believes Pochettino is gettable – despite Tottenham being likely to be tough negotiators.

“He is the best choice,” Stam said.

“He’s got a lot of experience working in the UK with Southampton and Tottenham.

“He’s good in building a team, plays attractive football, playing out from the back to score goals and win games. I would say that’s my choice.

“I think they can [get him].

“There’s been a discussion at Spurs about not spending money on players, I think he is the type of manager who wants to invest every year and improve – at United he gets to do that.

“They’ve got the money to do that. For him that would be the ultimate step.”

Stam also believes Solskjaer is the ideal man to help United out of their rough patch.

“It’s good for him,” he said.

“He’s a legend at United. I was quite surprised they were signing Ole, I didn’t know they were going to sign someone until the end of the season.

“I’m free as well, it would have been nice.

“I’m sure I could have done something over there as well – it’s always a matter of who you’re going to pick but hopefully they don’t forget about me!

“He wants to play attacking football, as a personality he can work with young players, give them a certain feeling, which is what they need.

“He’s got a football brain, he knows tactically what to do.

“Sometimes they need to be released from something that brings out that feeling of freedom. I think Ole is that type of manager.”
