Xperia XZ4 could be the best Sony phone in years if this leak is true

The Sony Xperia XZ4 is the presumed name given to the Xperia XZ3’s successor.

The hardware is expected to build upon the solid foundation laid by the XZ3 by reducing bezels further, improving its camera system and offering more capable performance.

Sony has been heavily rumoured to be planning a substantial photography upgrade for fans with the XZ4.

In fact notable tipster Ice Universe recently took to Twitter and posted alleged images of the hardware sporting a triple-camera array.

Although it is currently unknown what the function of each lens could be, if the leak is true it means Sony could be gearing up to radically challenge the likes of the Huawei P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro in this department.

Huawei’s newest offering, the Mate 20 Pro, comes with three camera modules that each have a unique purpose.

The device comes with a main, telephoto and wide-angle sensor that combine to offer an incredibly diverse smartphone camera setup.

Most notably, the renders of the Xperia XZ4 did not show a fingerprint sensor on the rear of the device.

Such an absence could suggest the Japanese tech firm is planning to place the phone’s scanner underneath its display.

Rival Android phones such as the OnePlus 6T already have such a feature.

More recently, Ice Universe has posted an image of what is claimed to be the front of the XZ4.

The hardware was shown with incredibly tiny bezels on both the top and bottom of its display, meaning the device could offer an incredibly tantalising all-screen aesthetic.

Most notably, the renowned tipster stated the Xperia XZ4 will boast a 21:9 aspect ratio.

This means the hardware could be thinner but taller than many other smartphone offerings on the market.

In his tweet showcasing the alleged XZ4, the tipster explained the benefits of the specified format.

He said: “The advantage of 21:9 is that it can display more content and perfectly display 21:9 movies.”

Although the leaks surrounding the XZ4 appear to showcase an incredibly futuristic and capable Sony device, nothing about the product has been officially confirmed by the manufacturer.

But Sony does have a history of announcing new hardware at Mobile World Congress (MWC) that is taking place in Barcelona next year.

The event is taking place towards the end of February, meaning Sony fans may not have long to wait before a new Xperia device is unveiled.
