Jose Mourinho: Man Utd hero makes worrying admission over sacked boss, Liverpool involved

That’s the view of United hero Paul Parker, who has admitted he was always worried about the club under Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese boss was sacked on Tuesday having been under immense pressure for the majority of the season.

Mourinho was shown the door in his third campaign at Old Trafford with the Red Devils 19 points behind leaders Liverpool after just 17 Premier League games.

Liverpool have gone from strength to strength under Jurgen Klopp, playing a free-flowing attacking style.

That’s in complete contrast to how Mourinho managed Manchester United, often being negative and defensive.

And former England international Parker has explained how Mourinho fell behind Liverpool.

“He wasn’t right,” Parker told talkSPORT.

“I said it before he got the job, I said it quite early when he got into the job and I’m saying it now…

“He was never right for Manchester United on and off the pitch. I think everyone saw that in the end with the way he was, the way he conducted himself.

“It always worried me about how they were going to play under Mourinho.

“If you sat and watched every team he managed, it was destructive football. He would match teams, he wouldn’t try and beat them and create, because he wasn’t a creative manager, he was a destructive manager.

“He was never going to play any football Manchester United fans – and I mean real Manchester United fans – wanted to see.

“People can come out and say, ‘he’s a winner’, but what does that mean?

“Does that mean United were just going to try and win trophies no matter how, and have no swagger and no style? Lose everything they’ve built up over the years?

“Football isn’t like that anymore and we’re seeing that with what’s happening at Manchester City, we may be seeing something begin at Liverpool and we may be seeing something begin at Tottenham, too, once they get into their new stadium, because they’re building very well with young players.”

Manchester United are set to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on an interim basis as they search for a new manager from next season.
