The 60-year-old star, who made the final of Strictly Come Dancing with her professional partner Giovanni Pernice, 28, last year, seemed to struggle to get a handle on things on her Sunday morning programme last month after admitting she’d been up late the night before. After getting the news updates from reporter Julian Perkins, Debbie McGee bid farewell to him, saying: “We’ll see you later on — well, I won’t because you’re not back now, are you? You’re on Bill’s show after me,” she added.
“Well, I’m still here, it’s you that’s going!” he replied.
“That’s the way it works, Debbie, I stay here and you go,” Julian laughed.
“You really can tell I’ve had a late night, can’t you?” Debbie giggled. “I’m so relaxed in my chair, I’ve got this swivel-y chair I’m swivelling around in.”
“You’re practically sliding off the end of it,” he chipped in.
“I’m just having a really good time,” the Strictly favourite said, sounding gleeful. “Happy Christmas everyone because I’m not back until January — am I showing it?!
“Oh my goodness, let’s hope the bosses aren’t listening,” she quipped.
Trying to regain her composure for the broadcast, Debbie told listeners: “Julian will be back with the news at 11 o’clock when Bill and Colin take over, but now, we have to get on with my show at some point in the proceedings, so, let’s get on with it… It’s BBC Radio Berkshire with Debbie McGee!”
Since the show, she has been taking a break from her presenting duties in order to appear in pantomime Sleeping Beauty in Wolverhampton.
The blonde beauty is playing the Good Fairy in the show which runs until January 13.
Paul Daniels’ former magician’s assistant Debbie cemented her place in the hearts of the nation on Strictly last year, impressing both fans and the judges with her incredible dance skills alongside Giovanni.
This year, the Italian heartthrob was paired with Steps star Faye Tozer, 43, but has become the subject of much speculation when it comes to his relationship with fellow finalist Ashley Roberts, 37.
Although both stars have denied they are anything more than friends, Debbie McGee spoke out about Ashley and Giovanni to reveal what she really thinks about their rumoured romance.
Appearing on Loose Women yesterday, she said she was not at all jealous of the former Pussycat Dolls star, telling the panel: “We’re still friends, he’s just a great mate.
“Probably that’s why I’m not jealous, because I wasn’t romantic with him.
“We’ve just got this amazing friendship,” she added.
Debbie and Giovanni formed a close bond on the BBC show and have stayed in touch since, regularly texting each other.
