Stacey Dooley: Strictly star says she nearly became ‘most HATED woman in Britain’ on show

Stacey Dooley has claimed her boyfriend Sam Tucknott nearly made her the “most hated woman in Britain” on her big night on Strictly Come Dancing 2018. The documentary-maker made the shock remark in view of her 240,000 Twitter followers yesterday, hours after she lifted the Glitterball with Kevin Clifton. The 31-year-old had her beau in the audience for the programme, which saw her triumph over Joe Sugg, Faye Tozer and Ashley Roberts. However, Sam seemingly got caught up in all the excitement and nearly fell onto fellow guest Mary Berry.

Stacey tweeted: “Sam’s just told me he nearly fell of his chair and squashed Marry Berry.”(sic)

She continued in the light-hearted upload: “I would have gone from the Strictly champ, to the most hated woman in Britain in record time.”

The TV star was soon inundated with messages, with many complimenting her on her dancing and appearance on Strictly.

Among them, Home Under The Hammer star Lucy Alexander told her simply: “Whoop whoop.”

Two others continued: “You were amazing all year and deserved to win. Congratulations,” and: “Best thing about the Strictly Final: Stacey and Kev winning! Second best thing about the Final: Seeing Mary Berry!”(sic)

A fourth said: “Can honestly say my hubby and I didn’t know who u were before strictly. But u stole our hearts and we super happy that you won. We’ll deserved Stacey and Kev.”(sic)

Another person added: “Congrats Stacey. Loved you before Strictly. My favourite documentary-maker and now my favourite Strictly winner ever!”

Meanwhile, Stacey appeared on ITV’s This Morning today, where she joked that it was not the “end of the world” after she flashed her underwear live.

She had a wardrobe malfunction while dancing the Paso Doble, when she lifted up her skirt and showed off flesh-coloured underwear.

Stacey remarked: “At least they were big, they were like big Bridget Jones [knickers]. I thought, ‘Oh, they’re not even fancy, they’re not even lacy’.

“It’s like a built-in bodysuit, so actually, they weren’t really my actual knickers. I didn’t even realise, then I went into wardrobe the girl was like, ‘Stace, I’m so sorry but you were showing, you know, your area.”‘

Host Ruth Langsford said: “It was only a quick flash,” and she replied: “That’s it. It’s a Saturday night. It’s not the end of the world!”

It comes after Kevin was seen collapsing on the floor after presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman revealed the highly-anticipated result.

The 36-year-old’s dad Keith Clifton has since explained his reaction, saying it has been a “long haul”.

“His knees gave way,” he told Grimsby Live. “He was that relieved. It was shock and relief.

“It has been a long haul. He had been in four previous finals. He was overjoyed, not just for himself but for Stacey too.”
