‘PSG have something special, it’s fantastic’ What Jose Mourinho said about Man Utd rivals

And Jose Mourinho, who oversaw another damning defeat this weekend – this time to Liverpool – may wish he was in the opposite dugout.

Mourinho began flirting with the PSG job last season when it looked like Unai Emery was under pressure, before he signed a new contract with Manchester United.

The flattery got to the point where he told a tale about his son visiting the Parc des Princes.

“The other day my son decided to go and watch a match in Paris rather than Manchester,” he said.

“Why Paris? Because, right now, Paris has something special.

“There’s a magic about the place, youth and quality. It’s fantastic.”

Emery has been replaced by Thomas Tuchel but Neymar and Kylian Mbappe remain the stars of the show.

The duo have lit up Ligue 1 again this season and PSG are currently 10 points clear with games in hand over second and third.

Despite the defeat at Anfield they sailed through their Champions League group and gave a demonstration against Liverpool in the second game.

Jurgen Klopp complained but it was a show of the kind of mettle a side needs to dominate in Europe.

PSG have lacked that in the past, but it could be different this time around.

“It’s frightening. PSG are just so good,” Hargreaves said.

“You just think about (Edison) Cavani, Neymar and (Kylian) Mbappe – now they’ve added (Gianluigi) Buffon as they needed a goalkeeper.

“They’ve added a tactician in Thomas Tuchel. It feels like they are ready to compete with Europe’s elite.

“Their strength can compete with teams in the Premier League. So this is a big ask for Manchester United.”

They have never been beyond the quarter-final stages of the tournament but there is a feeling this could be their year with no obvious favourite.

Manchester City are the shortest price with the bookmakers but Pep Guardiola’s side were beaten by Liverpool in the semi-finals last year and he never won it with Bayern.

Bayern Munich are the poorest they’ve been in years while Real Madrid are rolling from one crisis to another.

Barcelona are second favourites but even they have a brittle feel at times – particularly if Lionel Messi is not available.

Juventus are the other juggernaught and with Cristiano Ronaldo in the team, anything is possible.

PSG are fourth favourites followed by Liverpool, Bayern and then Real. Manchester United are as long as 50/1 with Betfair – double the price you can get Tottenham for.
