Liverpool news: Man Utd and Man City issued Mohamed Salah warning: ‘It’s coming back’

That’s according to Lee Dixon.

Salah has scored four goals in his last two games to take his tally to the season to 13 goals, with 10 of those coming in the Premier League where he is the joint top goalscorer.

The Egyptian winger is looking to retain the Golden Boot he won with 32 strikes last term and he has averaged a strike rate of better than one goal every two games on Merseyside, despite largely playing out wide, with 57 goals in 75 games across all competitions.

But the 26-year-old will be looking to score against one of very few opponents to keep him at bay when he faces United at Anfield this afternoon (4pm) looking to help Liverpool back to the top of the league table.

Salah was criticised earlier this season but appears on the cusp of regaining the kind of devastating fluency with which he scored 44 times last term.

And ex-Arsenal defender Dixon is predicting more of the same from Salah this season once he gets back into full flow – which he suspects could be soon.

That would be bad news for Man City, who sit at least temporarily top of the table, as the reigning champions and Liverpool battle it out for domestic success this season.

Looking at Salah’s stats for the current campaign, Dixon joked sarcastically with Matt Holland on Optus Sport: “He’s not sparking and he’s not firing on all cylinders!

“But even though his numbers were still really good at the start of the season, he just seemed to be a little bit off it.

“Little bits of lack of control, not like him. It doesn’t matter – he’s still scoring goals. And now his form is coming back and his touch is coming back well.

“We’re going to get more goals and better performances. He’s going to carry on like he did last season for me.

“I think against the bigger teams they will go back to that three and he will be on that right-hand side.

“He’s got the natural ability and looks like he knows the runs to make. I think he’s a striker who has been playing out on the wing!

“When I saw him at Chelsea, I always thought, because he makes intelligent spin runs and drops off the shoulder into space, he’s always unnerving defenders on that last line.

“A full-back can tie you up, once he moves into the middle he can sit in between players in that little gap.

“That little jinking run is absolutely brilliant and that’s natural for him; all good strikers have that.

“Because he plays on that right-hand side and it’s a striker role and he can play down the middle, I think the versatility of that is a Klopp dream.”

United boss Jose Mourinho is well aware of Salah’s threat, having managed him at Chelsea earlier in his career.

He warned: “I played him at White Hart Lane and The Etihad and it was too much for him. Now he plays anywhere, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and he’s like ‘I am Mo Salah and I am afraid of nobody.’

“Liverpool have many strengths but he is a nuclear strength. Salah sometimes plays from the right, at other times he plays as the striker with [Roberto] Firmino dropping behind him. They have so many possibilities to get the best out of Salah.

“We analyse our opponents, their strengths and weaknesses, in every game and when you go to Liverpool you have to speak and think about Salah. Of course we do.

“We have to think of the best way to cope with a fantastic player like him and at least try to give him a difficult match.”
