Jose Mourinho won’t be able to do THIS for Man Utd against Liverpool – Reds hero

That’s the view of Reds hero Jan Molbywho believes Liverpool will have too much for United.

The pair meet at Anfield on Sunday (4pm) in their first meeting of the season.

There are 16 points between the sides going into the Premier League clash with the hosts top of the table.

United have struggled this season and were beaten 2-1 at Valencia in the Champions League in midweek.

Mourinho tends to opt for a primarily defensive tactic when facing his rivals, seeming to prioritise stopping the opponents scoring.

But Molby doesn’t think he’ll be able to do that against a rampant Liverpool side at the weekend.

“I don’t know if Manchester United are capable of doing the defensive jobs they have done on Liverpool in the past,” Molby told the Liverpool Echo.

“The longer it goes without them producing those heroic performances, the more I doubt they are capable.

“I know they got a couple of draws with Arsenal and Chelsea, but Liverpool are another level.

“I’m not convinced that Mourinho can produce a tactical masterclass to get himself a result. I think Liverpool will have too much for them.

“They are too inconsistent. The defeat in Valencia, I know it was a fringe team, won’t do them any good. I’d be amazed if we didn’t have too much quality for them.

“The level of quality you expect from Manchester United is not there. They have some average players and some good players who aren’t performing at the level expected of them.

“I think what Mourinho wants to do is go with a defensive tactic and hope that the bit of pace he has causes problems. But you need good enough defenders to invite Liverpool onto you, and I’m not convinced.”

Liverpool go into the game with an unbeaten record in the Premier League.

They have dropped points just three times, winning 13 matches.

It puts them one point ahead of current champions Manchester City who suffered their first defeat at Chelsea last weekend.
