Xperia XZ4 release and why it could be the phone Sony fans have been waiting for

Sony is getting back to its best with the most recent XZ3 offering some impressive specs and much-improved design.

This latest flagship brings fans an incredible 6-inch HDR display, wireless charging and some clever ‘Side Sense’ technology which allows users to interact with the phone simply by touching its edge.

However, despite the XZ3’s impressive list of features, it seems the next phone from Sony could be the one to watch out for.

The all-new Xperia XZ4 looks set to be released as soon as February and a recently leaked image may show why this could be one of the most exciting Sony phones in years.

Images posted by Ice Universe claim to show the rear case of the next Xperia and it appears to feature a triple rear camera system.

Until now, Sony only offered a dual-lens camera on its Premium range with the standard XZ3 only getting a single rear camera.

If this image is real, it could show Sony is ready to release one of its biggest camera upgrades in years.

There’s no word on what these trio of snappers could offer but Sony may be following Huawei with this photography update.

The new Mate 20 Pro from Huawei offers numerous tricks including a wide-angle and telephoto lens and is currently regarded as one of the best cameras you can find on a phone.

We will have to wait and see what the XZ4 actually features but one thing the recent image does show is the lack of a rear fingerprint scanner.

This would finally fix one of the XZ3’s biggest problems as the position of this current sensor has come in for some major criticism.

Sony has placed the fingerprint reader right underneath the camera of the XZ3 and made it the same shape which often means you place your finger right on the lens when trying to unlock the device.

This new update appears to show Sony will ditch this concept but it’s currently unclear what technology it may use to unlock the device.

Some companies, such as Apple, have now begun using facial recognition whilst others, such as OnePlus, now embedded the scanner under the display.

There is a hint, from the image posted on Twitter, that Sony may revert to side mounted scanner but there’s no official confirmation of this.

Luckily, there may not be too long to wait until we find out full specs as Sony has a history of launching devices at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

This major event takes place at the end of February and expect plenty of big announcements from all the main smartphone manufacturers including Samsung, Nokia and Huawei.
