Overwatch Winter Wonderland start time news: Release date arrives for news skins

A big new update is coming to Overwatch today on PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms.

The Overwatch Winter Wonderland event has a start time set for later today, meaning big release date news is coming our way.

As usual, Blizzard hasn’t revealed a solid launch time for their new Winter update, but it’s expected that new skins and game modes will be playable in the UK later today.

The Winter Wonderland release time will vary depending on where you live, meaning some places will get to play earlier than others.

Here’s the estimate for when the new Overwatch Winter Wonderland update will go live:

  • Americas: December 11 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m PDT
  • UK: December 11 6:00 p.m – 7:00 p.m GMT
  • Europe: December 11 7:00 p.m. CEST
  • Asia: December 12 2:00 a.m. KST / 1:00 a.m. CST

As mentioned above, Blizzard hasn’t provided a set time, so there is a chance that this new content will go live an hour later, or earlier, depending on Blizzard’s plans.

The new Overwatch event will start with fans needing to download a new update.

After this has been completed, Overwatch players will have access to the new festive content.

The Overwatch development team have been following the rule of adding new skins every year, as well as offering old ones in loot boxes.

The description from last year’s Winter Wonderland reads: “Celebrate the holiday season with Winter Loot Boxes, filled with new skins, emotes, highlight, player icons, sprays, voice lines, and more.

“You can also purchase items you missed from last year’s event with credits for a discounted price.

“Over 150 cosmetic items are available, but don’t wait too long—these Loot Boxes will disappear faster than holiday desserts.”

Blizzard also debuted a new brawl in 2017: Yeti Hunter, as well as bringing back Mei’s Snowball Offensive.

50 new seasonal items were added in 2017, including legendary skins like Snow Owl Ana, Rime Sombra, Beachrat Junkrat, and Ice Fisherman Roadhog.

WINTER WONDERLAND 2018 SKINS

Blizzard has spent the last week unveiling some of the new skins that will be on offer.

It all began with a look at a new Legendary snowboarder skin for Zarya, which is described as “Pawsitively fursome”.

Blizzard would follow this up with a look at Gift Wrap Bastion and Sugar Plum Mercy.

Fans of Symmetra will also be pleased to see the new Legendary skin coming soon.

“Put your enemies on ice,” reads a Blizzard tweet. “Rise up the rinks as FIGURE SKATER SYMMETRA (Legendary)! Overwatch Winter Wonderland begins Dec 11.”

The final skins to be showcased by Blizzard include a Krampus outfit for Junkrat, which may be one of the more unsettling new designs.

The development team behind the popular team shooter may reveal more news ahead of the big release, so it will be worth keeping an eye on the official social media feeds.

It should also be noted that all the biggest updates from Overwatch Winter Wonderland release will be listed in the official patch notes.
