Melania Trump’s football loving son Barron met WAYNE ROONEY at White House Christmas party

The couple were invited personally by the President as his guests of honour. Barron Trump, aged 12, is a keen football fan and supporter of local team DC United. Rooney joined DC United on a three and a half year deal in June.

Photos from the event show Barron, and a number of his friends, posing with Rooney in the Presidential residency.

First Lady Melania delivered a short speech to party guests.

An insider told The Sun: “Coleen and Wayne were stunned when they received a personal invite from Donald inviting them to the White House.

“For them this was a chance to go inside one of the most iconic buildings in the world and give their children this experience of being there for the Christmas party, which is always spectacular.

“They were given a guided tour of President Trump’s private rooms but the Oval Office was off limits.”

Barron, aged 12, played in DC United’s development academy for the under 12’s team.

According to the US Soccer Development Academy, he played 24 games for the side in the 2017-18 season.

The source added: “Wayne is a huge name on DC United’s team so obviously Donald invited them because of his son Barron and how much he loves the team.

“The Rooneys are also a really nice family and it’s an extra special welcome to Washington for them.

“It’s an experience none of them will ever forget”.

However, they insisted the Rooneys visited out of curiosity, and the visit didn’t amount to a political endorsement.

DC United players were also invited to the annual White House Easter Egg Roll earlier this year, where they played football with Barron.

United forward Patrick Mullins later told the Washington Post he was impressed how much Barron knew about football and the team.

He said: “He was very knowledgeable about soccer, knew about DC United and was interested to know more.”

Barron received a DC United branded football signed by the players when he first moved to Washington last year.

He had previously been pictured wearing an Arsenal kit.
