Melania Trump opts for low-key look as she attends Christmas event without Donald

Melania Trump, wife of US President Donald Trump, 72, opted for a relaxed look as she met with children in Washington today. The First Lady joined the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. The programme distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. Melania was all smiles as she mingled with the children and helped to sort and box toys.

The former model chose to wear a casual outfit for the event and sported a red, navy and white plaid jacket, believed to be by Tomas Maier.

She wore the jacket fastened up, with a belt cinching the waist and showing off her slim figure.

Melania teamed the vibrant fashion choice with plain skinny trousers and high heeled boots.

She wore her hair in loose waves over her shoulders, as well as opting for a pink lipstick and a dusting of dark eyeshadow.

Donald Trump’s wife also showed off her maternal side as she was photographed hugging one little girl.

She also greeted children who were drawing holiday cards at the Christmas event.

“The charity collects new, unwrapped toys and provides them to children in need,” the Office of the First Lady highlighted in a statement. “The toys are intended to provide hope for children and motivate them to do good in the world.”

Melania also donated 100 books to the Toys for Tots literacy program as part of her visit.

“Since starting in 2008, the program has distributed over 39 million books to less fortunate children, helping to reduce the illiteracy rate among children,” according to the Office of the First Lady.

Last week Melania and Donald Trump hosted a Hanukkah reception in the White House.

The President and First Lady put on a cosy display when they walked hand-in-hand into the East Room, where the reception for the Jewish festival was being held.

The former model looked every inch the stylish First Lady in a figure-hugging black dress with a hemline that fell just below the knee.

The stunning off-the-shoulder number nipped in at the waist to showcase her slim figure.

Wearing her hair in loose waves, Melania added smokey eyeshadow and pink lipstick to her evening look and teamed the beautiful dress with a pair of shiny black stilettos.

Mother-of-one Melania was all smiles at the reception as she supported her husband.

During the event, the couple greeted guests including Holocaust survivors as well as Andrew Pollack, whose 18-year-old daughter Meadow Pollack was killed in the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting earlier this year.

Last week, Melania wore a coat thought to be by Proenza Schouler to the funeral of the 41st US President George H. W. Bush – the item could be worth $2,275 – which is around £1,786.
