Barcelona 1-0 Tottenham LIVE: Ousmane Dembele nets early with Lionel Messi dropped

16′ Tottenham have reacted well to going behind but have yet to create anything going forwards. There is good news though!

PSV lead at Inter Milan thanks to a Hirving Lozano goal.

That means as rthings stand even though Tottenham are losing they would be going through to the last 16.

7′ BARCELONA GOAL – Ousmane Dembele

Not the start Tottenham wanted at the Nou Camp. Christian Eriksen has a free kick in a dangerous area but his delivery is cleared. The ball breaks to Ousmane Dembele just inside the Spurs half.

The France star uses his sheer speed to beat the Tottenham defence and give Hugo Lloris no chance in goal. As things stand Spurs are going out of the Champions League.

WE’RE UNDERWAY AT THE NOU CAMP

7.57pm: The players are out on the Nou Camp pitch and enjoy the Champions League anthem as we are ready to get this crucial contest underway.

Can Tottenham qualify for the knockout stages?

7.40pm: Dimitar Berbatov thinks Tottenham will have been ‘jumping around’ when they heard the Barcelona line-up.

He said on BT Sport: “All due respect to Barcelona but this is not a team that you used to see.

“This is a weak team and Spurs will probably be jumping around.

“But at the same time they can’t underestimate the opposition because this is Barcelona.

“You need to be good to play for Barcelona. They are a strong team.”

7.25pm: How can Tottenham qualify for the knockout stages?

Spurs are second, ahead of Inter because they have a better head-to-head record in their two matches – they lead the Italians on away goals.

They lost 2-1 to Inter in the San Siro in their first meeting in September. So that’s 2-2 on aggregate, as it were, after their 1-0 home win.

If Spurs finish level on points with Inter they will go through.

Tottenham will qualify if their result at Barcelona matches or betters Inter’s result at home to PSV.

7.10pm: With Messi on the bench and Luis Suarez not in the squad Tottenham will believe they have a chance at the Nou Camp tonight.

But Mauricio Pochettino’s side have made hard work of getting out of their Champions League group.

I sense some permutations coming on…

6.55pm: The teams are out and the headline is that Lionel Messi starts on the bench for Barcelona. Good news for Spurs?

Barcelona XI: Cillessen; Semedo, Lenglet, Vermaelen, Juan Miranda; Arthur, Rakitic, Alena; Dembele, Munir, Coutinho

Subs: Ter Stegen, Pique, Busquets, Denis Suarez, Messi, Alba, Vidal

Tottenham XI: Lloris, Walker-Peters, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen, Dele, Son, Kane

Subs: Gazzaniga, Davies, Dier, Skipp, Lamela, Lucas, Llorente

6.45pm: Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde insists he will respect the competition and pick a strong side to face Tottenham.

“There are players with discomfort and it does not fit into my plans, of course, to play then in two games in three days,” he explained.

“Inter has nothing to fear. If they had drawn or won, they would have no problem.

“We have to look after ourselves. We will go out to win but we respect the competition and we want to win.”

6.30pm: Welcome to our coverage of the crucial Champions League showdown between Barcelona and Tottenham tonight.

Spurs have a mountain to climb and know the only way to guarantee progress to the knockout stages is to beat Lionel Messi and co at the Nou Camp.

The likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli will have to be at their very best for Mauricio Pochettino’s side to pull off an upset.
