Ronnie O’Sullivan OUT of Scottish Open snooker: Reason why revealed

O’Sullivan was all set to compete at the Scottish Open in Glasgow this week.

The five-time world champion was seeded second for the tournament and had a clash with Daniel Wells penned in.

But the 43-year-old will NOT be competing at the Scottish Open, it has been confirmed.

O’Sullivan won the UK Championship for a seventh time on Sunday and World Snooker confirmed the player will now not compete in Glasgow.

Speaking after his title triumph on Sunday, O’Sullivan had said: “I have to thank all of the people that have helped me get this far.

“I owe it to the fans. I’m playing for them.

“I don’t set myself limits. I just want to compete.

“It’s all about trying to enjoy it. What a fantastic sport I’m blessed to be able to play.”

On Monday morning, he tweeted: “Absolutely delighted to win my 7th UK title last night.

“This means more to me than I can put into words.

“Hard to believe it’s been 25 years since I won my first UK Championship.

“Thank you to all of my incredible fans around the world, this one is for you.”

O’Sullivan had been one of the main draws for the Scottish Open this week.

He has not won the competition since beating Mark Williams 9-1 in the final in 2000.

His withdrawal means Wells progresses to the second round, where he will meet England’s David Gilbert, who beat Scot Craig MacGillivray 4-2 on Monday.
